He'd never known simple things could do such wonders but her gentle touch seemed to always manage to lessen whatever stress he was feeling, or at least make him forget about it for a while. Though Poe did his best to hold still for her, he couldn't help but to gaze at her when she was so close and being so caring. Sometimes it still felt a bit like a dream. Her, the two of them, the way he felt just from seeing her smile.

"I don't know, because I acted like everything was fine, other than the delay." His gaze dropped for a moment but was soon to return to her. "It was supposed to be easy though. Relatively speaking. We didn't have any indication we might be walking in to trouble." It hadn't been an ambush per se, but the criminals had known when they would be there and waited to confront them in close quarters. The smuggler had assured him they were changing the encryption every time they communicated but Poe wondered if one of the calls had been intercepted. It would probably keep him up at night, trying to figure out how exactly the criminals found out about them and how anything similar could be avoided in the future.
