scene with ~lastofjedi

For some reason it was the simplest things that had a way of going wrong. Although the fact they had to go through smugglers just to get basic supplies probably meant it really wasn't so simple. But that was how Poe always regarded supply runs; just a simple pick up and return to base. Nothing flashy or dangerous about them. Usually.

At least they had enough luck that it wasn't First Order goons bringing the trouble down on them. Just regular ol' criminals who apparently took issue with 'dirty rebels' doing business in their town. Poe might have let it go if they were in a position where they could arrange a drop with someone else but thanks to the First Order most of their allies were either dead or too scared to even acknowledge them. Supplies were more precious than credits or ammo at the moment. He wasn't about to leave that planet without what they paid for.

Nearly sixteen hours after the time the team was supposed to have returned Poe was landing their ship back at the base. They were a little worse for wear but nothing that rest and basic medical couldn't take care of, thankfully. As he moved to help unload the ship it was difficult to keep his mind focused, his thoughts wanting to drift to Rey. Being able to talk to her had helped some with stress but as soon as they'd had to break contact it returned, settling in his chest like a cold stone. While it was lessening now that he and the team returned safely with their cargo, he knew it was only a matter of time before some new stressor took its place. He never looked it though, couldn't, not when everywhere he went he felt like eyes were always on him.

Poe felt her before he saw her. That was happening more often too, having some sense of when Rey was near. He assumed it was because of the Force, though he had no idea if it was due to how much time they had been spending together or her power or his, or all of the above.

Once he saw her, all he wanted to do was go to her. And that was a new feeling for him too but it had nothing to do with the Force.

Still carrying in supply crates, he flashed Rey one of his 'everything's fine' smiles, as if it might distract from the abrasion near his temple or the cut in the arm of his jacket from a vibroblade, both of which he'd purposely failed to mention when they were talking earlier. It wasn't as if it would have had any purpose other than to worry her when he was sure she already was, even if she didn't say it. Poe understood; he would have felt the same.

Rey was very familiar with isolation and loneliness was far from a stranger to her, it wasn't anything new and she still would often get a bit overwhelmed with how accepting the Resistance often was with her, although she still felt very out of place most of the time. Those insecurities had slowly began to melt the moment she and Poe became involved.

He had to leave suddenly, they hardly got to say goodbye to each other that alone have a private moment together. Rey was very aware of Poe's skills [both in and out of bed] she knew that this run would hardly be anything the great pilot couldn't handle but that only somewhat eased her worry. The First Order could decide to attack at any given moment, they could be planning anything and it made Rey slightly uneasy when everyone wasn't together, not that Poe couldn't handle his own. Rey knew he could and she knew he would return back safe.

She had grown use to waking up tangled witthin his arms, pleasingly sore from the night before but now her bed just seemed lonely. She would silent her mind with meditation or she chose to spend her time training but in the end her thoughts always would circle back to him and at night she would fall into very vivid nightmares as she lay alone.

This was more than just a loneliness that consumed her heart, when Poe was gone she felt empty.

She felt him before she saw him too, she could sense him even before he arrived and yes she was waiting. She kept her distance as he and his squad unpacked the supplies from their travel, a small smile flashed along her lips as they locked eyes for the first time in what seemed like forever. She wanted to rush to him, embrace him in her arms and hold him close against her. The smile he flashed her made her stomach drop slightly and it only twisted in knots as she noticed that he had clearly been injured.

Thankfully they still had a few medical kits and she was quick to access one so that she could clean Poe's minor injuries. She waited for him and his team to get everything settled, checked back in with General Organa before she silently made her way towards him.
